UPDATE: The Bobby Ryan To Buffalo Rumors: What I’ve Been Told And What I Think

November 29, 2011 5:20 pm 3 comments

UPDATE: First off, yes Ducks GM Bob Murray was in attendance last night at the First Niagara Center.  Secondly, to update everyone on the Ryan to Buffalo rumor, much is still the same. Buffalo and Anaheim are indeed talking like we reported yesterday, and Ryan’s name is one of the names being discussed.

I’m still told that Toronto is the front runner, and if Ryan were to get traded to Toronto, that doesn’t rule out a Sabres/Ducks deal. Anaheim likes, and wants Drew Stafford, and with the depth of Buffalo’s prospect pool, they wouldn’t mind dipping into that either.

So right now, although nothing big has changed on the Bobby Ryan front, a Buffalo/Anaheim deal could go down within the next two weeks.

Over the past day or so rumors have been circling about the possibility of the Buffalo Sabres acquiring former 30-goal scorer Bobby Ryan from the Anaheim Ducks.  Now I’m not one that usually posts on rumors, especially after allowing THIS to go up, but I’ve made a few calls and did research, and have found that there is indeed some truth to these rumors floating about.

WHAT I KNOW: Information is coming from the same man who told me of the Boyes and Regehr deals days in advance, that’s the only reason why I’m even entertaining this idea…

Buffalo, CBJ, and Toronto are the top three teams INTERESTED in Ryan. Right now Leafs have best offer of a combination of Schenn, Grabovski,Bozak, and/or Kadri. It’s a very real possibility that Anaheim is using Buffalo to up the deal from Toronto. Also remember the Burke/Anaheim connection; Burke wants the player he drafted. Right now I’d view Toronto as the front runner.

Sabres have an offer of Stafford, A young NHL ready player (my guess is Ennis), and a D prospect on the table.

Also, keep an eye out for the Rangers who could be looking into the idea of acquiring him. But they don’t want to give up Stepan, and I was told the Ducks want him.

But the only way Ryan get’s traded is if the Ducks dont turn things around over the next couple of weeks to a month.  Of course they could get blown away and pull a trigger sooner, but im told thats HIGHLY UNLIKELY

WHAT I THINK:

I personally feel that Ryan will be dealt by no later than the end of December. If I had to pick a team, my first choice would be Toronto for the reasons stated above.  I agree with what I was told that Buffalo may very well be being used in order to drive offers up from other teams. However, Buffalo may also be using this as a fuse to let other teams of the league know that they are serious about winning now.  With that being said, I don’t see Buffalo being the team that will land Ryan if/when he is dealt

  • Not only is bobby Ryan not a former 50 goal scorer he isn’t even a former 36 goal scorer.

  • Don’t know where you’re getting this info but I highly doubt Anaheim would do that move with Toronto, especially with Bozak or Kadri included, Murray has already said that the Ducks have too many undersized forwards. Why would he get rid of Bobby a 30 goal power forward, for two undersized and unproven players?

Why Signing Vince Young Was A Great Football Move

It was Friday afternoon when I received a text that said, “The Bills just signed Vince Young.  What are they thinking?”  After dismissing my students for the weekend I pulled my phone out and simply replied, “Great football move.”  Yep, I used the word great.  Here are five reasons why I’m so giddy about a guy who had a 4-9 TD to INT ratio. 1.  We Finally Have A Decent Backup Quarterback Alex Van Pelt, Shane Matthews (pictured above), JP [...]

SOURCES: Sabres Will Push Hard To Move Up In The Draft

According to multiple sources close to the situation, the Buffalo Sabres are looking to move up in the draft, specifically into the top five. Buffalo currently owns two first round (12 & 21) and two second round picks in this June’s draft, and would really love the opportunity to draft either Quebec Remparts center Mikhail Grigorenko or Alex Galchenyuk of the Sarnia Sting. Buffalo needs help offensively and while they would love to pick up prize free agent Zach Parise they [...]

In my fifth installment of the “Predicting the Bills Breakout Players of 2012″ series, I’ll take a look at second-year left tackle Chris Hairston, out of Clemson. Chris Hairston was an afterthought in the 2011 NFL Draft, being selected with the No. 122 overall pick in the fourth-round. Without any offseason activities to allow Hairston to fully understand the Bills’ blocking schemes, not much was expected out of the Clemson product who had made 36 career starts for the Tigers. Predicting Bills Breakout Players of 2012: Defensive Tackle Marcell Dareus

In the fourth installment of my “Predicting the Bills Breakout Players of 2012″ series, I’ll take a look at defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, out of Alabama. Marcell Dareus was selected with the third overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, filling a need at the three-technique defensive end utilized in a 3-4 defensive front. He had experience all over the line during his time with the Crimson Tide, playing end and nose tackle in ‘Bamas 3-4 defense, so the Bills [...]

The 25-year old is entering the final year of his rookie deal which paid him $1.25 million over three years. Nelson is a big target at 6’5″, weighing 217 pounds, and made [...]

In the second installment of my “Predicting the Bills’ Breakout Players of 2012″ series, I’ll take a look at third-year running back, C.J. Spiller, out of Clemson. Since being selected with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, it hasn’t been easy for Buffalo Bills’ running back C.J. Spiller. Bills fans were scratching their heads when the pick was made, as the team already had two solid tailbacks in Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. However, that didn’t [...]
